Description
This simple chia seed jam is a quick and healthy homemade alternative to store-bought jams. Made with fresh berries, chia seeds, and a touch of natural sweetener, it requires no cooking and thickens naturally as the chia seeds absorb moisture. Perfect for spreading on toast, mixing into yogurt, or adding to desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 2-3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (to taste)
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the berries: Rinse the fresh berries thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry with a clean towel. Remove any stems to ensure a smooth jam texture.
- Mash the berries: Place the berries into a mixing bowl and mash them using a fork or potato masher until you reach your desired consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
- Combine ingredients: Stir in the chia seeds, honey or maple syrup, and water into the mashed berries until everything is well combined.
- Let it thicken: Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for 15-30 minutes. During this time, the chia seeds will absorb the moisture and thicken the jam naturally.
- Store the jam: Transfer the chia seed jam into a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid and refrigerate. It will keep fresh for up to two weeks.
Notes
- You can use any type of fresh berries or a mix of your favorites.
- Adjust sweetness according to your taste by varying the amount of honey or maple syrup.
- For a smoother jam, blend the berries before mixing.
- The jam thickens further when refrigerated, so you can adjust water quantity for preferred consistency.
- Shake or stir the jam before use if it separates slightly after sitting.
