Instructions
- Melt Chocolate and Butterscotch: Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler over low heat.
- Add Flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness of the chocolate mixture.
- Combine Noodles: Gently fold the crispy chow mein noodles into the melted chocolate mixture, being careful not to crush them to maintain their crunch.
- Incorporate Optional Add-ins: Mix in your choice of optional ingredients such as roasted peanuts, mini marshmallows, shredded coconut, or crushed pretzels for added texture and flavor.
- Form Haystacks: Line a tray with parchment paper. Spoon small mounds of the mixture onto the tray to create individual haystack treats.
- Set the Treats: Allow the haystacks to set at room temperature until firm, or refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes to speed up the hardening process.
- Serve or Store: Once firm, serve the haystack treats immediately or store them in an airtight container to enjoy later.
