Description

A quick and flavorful Ground Beef and Broccoli stir-fry recipe that combines tender broccoli florets with savory ground beef in a rich, thickened soy-based sauce. Perfect for a weeknight dinner served over steamed rice and garnished with fresh green onions.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ yellow onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce Ingredients

  • ½ cup beef broth
  • â…“ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

To Serve

  • Rice, for serving
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Steam Broccoli: In a pot with a steamer basket, bring a few inches of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and steam them for 4-5 minutes until tender but still firm. Remove from the steamer and set aside.
  2. Cook Ground Beef and Onions: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced yellow onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and the onions are softened. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant. Reduce heat to medium-low.
  3. Prepare Sauce: While the beef and onion cook, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, 1 clove minced garlic, ground ginger, and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth.
  4. Combine and Thicken: Add the steamed broccoli to the skillet with the beef. Pour the sauce mixture over the top. Stir everything together and continue to sauté on medium-low heat until the sauce thickens and coats the meat and broccoli evenly, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve: Spoon the Ground Beef and Broccoli mixture over steamed rice. Garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh finish. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook broccoli; it should remain slightly crisp for the best texture.
  • You can substitute low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of regular soy sauce.
  • If preferred, use ground turkey or chicken as a substitute for ground beef.
  • To thicken the sauce without cornstarch, you can use arrowroot powder or reduce the sauce longer on the stove.
