Description

Garlic Parmesan Meatloaf is a savory and comforting dish combining ground beef and pork with aromatic garlic, sautéed onions, Parmesan cheese, and Italian herbs. Baked to perfection, this meatloaf offers a juicy texture with a flavorful crust, perfect for a hearty family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onion until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant, then remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, sautéed onion and garlic, milk, ketchup, beaten egg, salt, black pepper, dried parsley, and dried oregano. Gently mix the ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat mixture.
  4. Shape and Transfer: Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf form and smoothing the top with a spatula or your hands for an even surface.
  5. Bake the Meatloaf: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 160°F (71°C) ensuring it is fully cooked.
  6. Rest the Meatloaf: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest in the pan for 10 minutes. This resting period helps the juices redistribute, resulting in a moist meatloaf.
  7. Slice and Serve: After resting, slice the meatloaf into portions and serve warm. Garnish with extra parsley if desired for added color and flavor.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Adding a glaze of ketchup or barbecue sauce on top before baking can add extra flavor.
  • Ensure not to overmix the meat to keep the loaf tender and moist.
  • The internal temperature must reach 160°F to ensure food safety.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and are great for sandwiches.
