Ingredients
Scale
Jello Mixture
- 3 ounce box Strawberry Jell-O gelatin
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- ½ cup vodka
Garnish
- 12 gummy eyeball candies
Instructions
- Dissolve gelatin: In a large bowl with a pour spout, pour 1 cup of boiling water over the strawberry gelatin powder. Whisk continuously until the gelatin is completely dissolved and no granules remain.
- Add cold liquids: Whisk in ½ cup of cold water followed by ½ cup of vodka until fully combined, creating a smooth jello liquid mixture.
- Pour into cups: Arrange twelve 2-ounce jello shot cups on a rimmed tray to catch any spills. Slowly pour the strawberry jello mixture into each cup up to the fill line, leaving about 1/8 inch space at the top to allow for setting.
- Initial chilling: Place the tray with the jello shots in the refrigerator for 1 to 1 ½ hours until the mixture is partially set but still tacky to the touch.
- Add eyeball garnish: Carefully place one gummy eyeball candy on top of each partially set jello shot. This ensures the eyeballs stick properly and look realistic.
- Final chilling: Return the tray to the refrigerator for an additional 1 ½ hours to overnight so the jello shots can fully firm up and the gummy eyeball garnishes set into place.
- Serve or store: Once completely set, cover each jello shot cup with a lid and stack them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Enjoy chilled for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use a rimmed tray to catch spills and make transferring to the fridge easier.
- For stronger shots, you may adjust the vodka quantity up to â…” cup but do not exceed or the jello may not set properly.
- Gummy eyeballs can be sourced from specialty candy stores or online during Halloween season.
- Allowing the jello to partially set before adding eyeballs helps them stay suspended on top.
- Store leftover jello shots covered in the fridge for up to 3 days for best quality.
