Ingredients
Scale
Tofu Preparation
- 12 oz block extra firm tofu (350 g)
Seasoning & Coating
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Press the tofu: Sandwich the block of extra firm tofu between paper towels and place two plates on top. Apply pressure by placing a heavy object, such as a 28 oz can, on the top plate. Let it press for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and allow it to heat up while you prepare the tofu.
- Cut the tofu: Remove the pressed tofu and cut it into cubes about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch in size for even cooking.
- Coat the tofu with oil and cornstarch: Toss the tofu cubes in the avocado oil to lightly coat them, then toss them in cornstarch, which will help create a crispy outer layer.
- Season the tofu: Add paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt to the tofu. Toss well to ensure all cubes are evenly coated with the spices.
- Cook in the air fryer: Place the seasoned tofu cubes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 13 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to promote even browning.
- Check for doneness: The tofu should be firm on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. Keep in mind it will harden slightly as it cools.
- Serve immediately: Enjoy your crispy air fryer tofu fresh for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu effectively removes excess water, crucial for achieving crispiness.
- Shaking the tofu during cooking promotes even browning on all sides.
- You can adjust seasoning to taste, adding spices like chili powder for extra heat.
- Serve with dipping sauces like soy sauce, sriracha, or a peanut dressing for added flavor.
- To store leftovers, refrigerate in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer to retain crispiness.
