Discover the perfect blend of Asian-inspired flavors with Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Tacos. Crispy baked wonton shells are filled with tender, hoisin-glazed chicken, fresh veggies, and drizzled with sweet chili sauce for a delicious appetizer that’s easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Wonton Shells and Toppings

  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray or oil for brushing
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 1/3 cup Asian-style sweet chili sauce or sesame dressing, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly coat both sides of the wonton wrappers with cooking spray or brush with oil. Gently press each wrapper into the cups of an upside-down muffin tin to form taco shells. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden and crisp. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced chicken and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until completely cooked through.
  3. Flavor Chicken: Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and minced ginger into the skillet. Continue cooking for another 2 to 3 minutes until the chicken is well coated and slightly caramelized.
  4. Finish Chicken Mixture: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sliced green onions to retain their fresh flavor.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Place shredded lettuce inside each baked wonton shell. Spoon the chicken mixture evenly into each shell, then top with shredded carrots and chopped cilantro if using. Drizzle with Asian-style sweet chili sauce or sesame dressing.
  6. Serve Immediately: Serve the tacos straight away to ensure the wonton shells remain crisp and enjoy your delicious appetizer.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add sriracha sauce or red pepper flakes to the chicken mixture while cooking.
  • Assemble tacos just before serving to keep wonton shells crispy.
  • Wonton shells can be baked in advance and stored in an airtight container to save prep time.
